Our founder, Shalini Sinha, has been doing this work for a long time!
Shalini has been involved in social change since she was a young teen. Throughout her life, her mind has been thinking about how to support large groups of people to do things differently, and together, create a fairer society together. Shalini draws on over 25 years of professional experience and expertise.
Shalini is a community leader, entrepreneur, academic, consultant and certified professional coach. She has lived experience of many intersecting oppressions, is an out-queer leader, member of the disabled community and a single-parent.
Shalini has maintained a commitment throughout her life to grassroots, community-centred activism, for example as the Chair of the City of Edmonton’s Anti-Racism Advisory Committee or currently as Chair of the Board of the Pride Centre of Edmonton. She was on the national delegation for Ireland to help form the European Union’s Network Against Racism, and she led the community voice to achieve the City of Edmonton’s groundbreaking Anti-Racism Strategy. In doing so, she has led on concepts of collaborative decision-making and of sharing resources and power with those most marginalized and impacted by that decision-making.
In addition to her entrepreneurial and community activities, Shalini loves educating young minds (and older ones!) to understand oppression and develop strong critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills. She teaches in Gender Studies, previously at University College Dublin and currently at MacEwan University.
Shalini believes in creating relationships first before the work, in enjoying every minute of the journey, and lives by Emma Goldman’s quote, “If I can’t dance, I don’t want to be part of your revolution.”
